M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D. — Vice Principal, Professor & Head (Mathematics)

Dr. D.V. Chandrasekhar received his Ph.D. degree from Bangalore University in 2004. He is currently serving as Vice-Principal, Professor, and Head of the Department of Basic Science and Humanities at Vivekananda Institute of Technology, Bangalore. He possesses an exceptional 28 years of teaching experience in professional engineering colleges, alongside guiding scholars for M.Phil and Ph.D. degrees.

His major research interests include Advanced Fluid Mechanics, Linear Algebra & Optimization, Probability and Statistics, and Computer Engineering. He has published numerous research articles in reputed national and international journals.

Brief Profile of the Department

The Department of Basic Science and Humanities was established in 1997, when Vivekananda Institute of Technology was founded. The department is the academic bedrock of the institute, welcoming an annual intake of 570 first-year engineering students across all disciplines.

The department has highly qualified, experienced, and committed faculty who have established exemplary academic standards. Through personalized attention, innovative experiments, and rigorous conceptual drills, BSH ensures that every incoming student smoothly transitions from pre-university education to higher technical problem-solving.

Institutional Mentoring Mechanisms

1. MCM (Mentoring & Counseling Mechanism)

Dedicated faculty counselors guide students on personal, psychological, and career adaptation.

2. PTIM (Parents-Teacher Interaction Mechanism)

Regular progress updates, attendance reporting, and constructive academic meetings with parents.

3. AAM (Additional Assistant Mechanism)

Remedial coaching, slow learner bridge classes, and specialized tutorial workshops.

Equipped with computer systems and mathematical computing software (SciLab, MATLAB) for numerical analysis, matrix transformations, and curve plotting.

2. Applied Chemistry Lab

Colorimeters, flame photometers, digital pH meters, potentiometers, conductometers, and analytical titration glassware for chemical and battery analysis.

Physics Lab at VKIT

3. Applied Physics Lab

Spectrometers, laser diffraction setups, Newton's ring apparatus, dielectric constant meters, semiconductor bandgap testers, and optical bench setups.
